Rome and Russia * In case you didn't know, I am on a 12 day trip
to Rome
and Russia.
I just completed a 3 day trip
to Rome, where I gave 2 presentations on quilts at the US Embassy: an informal power point on "Quilts in America" at the opening reception of their quilt exhibit (curated by Susan Fiorentino), and then a big formal presentation Quilts Around the World for the embassy staff and some VIP local quilters, reviewing the best quilts from Houston, Tokyo, Melbourne, Irish Quilt Fest, and Birmingham.
Now I'll have to incorporate some of the Italian
and Russian quilts into the power point, for next time!
I have several friends following along on Facebook, and one comment I get often is "how do you do it?" (i.e.
so much traveling to multiple stops).
Well I am definitely exhausted tonight, so I am going to bed soon in my Moscow hotel, to try to build up my sleep bank.
Everything took a long time tonight - a long trip from the airport to the hotel because of all the traffic, and a long wait in the restaurant because I came in just behind a bus-load of tourists...
literally!
You can see my efforts to keep an updated daily blog on my Typepad page during this trip.
I had to change my hotel room after one night in Rome, and I'll have to do it again tomorrow morning here in Moscow.
(This room only has a shower, which drives me nuts on a trip.
I HAVE to take a bath every day - it is my daily meditation that keeps me sane!)
On the way into town we drove past the Kremlin just past dusk, and it was all lit up - absolutely gorgeous and striking.
I did not fully understand what the Kremlin is until I started to study for this trip.
I am not an expert, but I can tell you that it is much more than just an old government building.
Like the Tower of London, It reminds me of the Tower complex which houses the National Jewels there.
The rest of my trip is busy busy BUSY but I'll continue to post daily on
my blog.
Thanks for coming along on this cyber trip with me!
Dasvidaniya!
