A Year of Quilt Shows * This year I have been honored and absolutely delighted to participate in the trans-migration of ideas between quilters around the world.
I've traveled to quilt festivals and exhibits in Tokyo, Australia, California, Ireland, England, Italy and Russia.
Whew!
Everywhere I go, I share photos of the previous quilt shows, with the curious local quilters.
Then I take photos of their show, and add it to my power point presentation.
As you know, I recently shared these presentations in Rome and Moscow.
Now I want to share photos from those quilters, with all the rest of you around the world!
For the next two weeks I am home, and working on editing my photo library.
This weekend I've posted photos from a
dinner party in Rome (quilts by "
Bella Bella" author Norah McMeeking, and Italian quilters) - and I have also posted the
first batch of quilts from the Moscow quilt exhibit.
I will also have photos from the Moscow Art-to-Wear fashion show.
Just as I love the diversity of ideas and personalities among all the quilters who I meet, I just love comparing the similarities and differences between these international quilt exhibits.
Russia's patchwork movement is exploding like a giant red poppy, and it was such a pleasure to meet the quilters and see how they express their unique Russian perspective, with their own fabrics and needlework traditions.
(Please note: I do not have the transliteration of the Russian quilters' names, but I am hoping my Russian quilter friends will help to fill in those names in the comments under the photos!)
Take a look at
my photo page this weekend and next week, as I share more of these Russian quilts!
I am still waiting for photos from the US Embassy quilt show in Rome...will let you know when those are online.
Just in case you've missed some of the newsletters, be sure to check out the
many videos I've made at these international quilt shows! (The last few from Birmingham were posted last week.)
A reminder for local Colorado quilters that I will be giving a power point presentation at the
Front Range Contemporary Quilters meeting on Monday!
My
last quilt festival of the year will be HOUSTON - in just 2 weeks - and I'll be taking photos and making videos for you at this grand international quilt festival as well!
