Your Inner Creative Genius * By the time you read this, I'll be finishing up a very long frenetic first day of Quilt Market in Houston! I usually fly in the day before, but this time I am taking a 5:30 am flight to arrive as the show starts Saturday morning - ugh! However it is worth it.
The Chinese pianist LangLang is performing in Denver the night before, and my kids are so excited to have a chance to see him perform live.
(me too!) Hence, my brain-crunching early flight.
Don't worry, I'll still do my best to pick out all the best new fabrics for the coming months! Sometimes I am better when my brain is not working, because I pick intuitively and instinctively, instead of thinking about making the right choice.
I still figure I look at 150,000 fabrics per year, and choose about 10% of those designs.
Our eQuilter staff hits the show floor and fans out to find the coolest new patterns, notions, books and threads to go with all those fabulous fabrics.
Do you find that you are more creative, more in the zone, when you can work in a more spontaneous and intuitive fashion? Some of us really like to work everything out in advance - making conscious and even academic choices of color and design.
Some of us like to throw everything together, mix it up, and see what happens.
Then we say that we are "auditioning" fabrics...with tongue in cheek.
Either way works! As long as it makes you happy, and you don't get too stuck, wondering if it is "good".
When we trust our gut, instead of our Inner Critic, we are creative geniuses.
(i.e.
we return to our childlike sense of exploration, and non-judgemental play)
Developing your Creative Confidence is a great thing, because once you give yourself permission to dive in and mess around, you are more likely to dream up a masterpiece!
sharing your Passion for Fabric... Luana and Paul
