Celtic Christmas - Quilt Kit by Luana Rubin
Finished Size - 46" x 63" - As Seen in Irish Quilting Magazine - Premier Issue Dec 2008
This contemporary quilt has a holiday theme and a bright youthful color scheme, but hidden within the traditional holly wreath and the snowy reindeer hides another set of symbols - the Celtic Cross and the mythic White Stag.
Designer Luana Rubin has had a fascination with recurring symbols in various spiritual traditions, and in this quilt design combines Christmas motifs with Irish Celtic archetypal motifs. The visual interplay of traditional and contemporary, Christian and Celtic, are a reflection of Luana’s belief that in the end, all our belief systems trace back to one basic story- one universal truth. The holidays are a time to celebrate the joy of the season and the stories that bind us to one another.
In this quilt Luana uses the contemporary appliqué method of Double-Sided Fusing, but a seam allowance can be added to the stag and leaf templates to do a more traditional needleturn appliqué. Kit includes all fabrics used in this quilt, including designer prints, batiks, silk dupioni, red plaid with gold metallic, and pearlescent tonal prints. Steam-a-Seam 2 Lite (double sided fusible) recommended for fused appliqués. Batting and Backing not included.
