Ivory, Indigo This small scale, faux woodblock print features stylized cranes and a small floral motif, alternating with fluid, curving leafy bushes set over a solid ground. The timeless technique of paper stencils has been used for over 1000 years and the word, Katagami, is made up of two kanji. "Kata" means template or pattern, and "gami" means paper. The traditional palette and technique was usually used for kimonos. Stripes are about 1 1/4" wide, from the 'Katagami' collection by the Allentown Art Museum for Red Rooster Fabrics. |
