The advent of greeting cards in the mid 1800's was a genre of publishing that brought art into the market for public consumption in a new way. Affordable images depicting holiday scenes, offering celebratory words, sympathy, congratulations, birthday wishes and more, gained popularity along with the introduction of another new product of that time - magazines! We can thank these newly budding industries from that time, for the popularization of much of the 'novelty' art we now love on our fabrics and other products. This cozy scene depicting country farm houses and barns on a winter night are wonderful examples of the charm, warm feelings and fun, associated winter done in a whimsical style.
