Charley Harper was an American Modernist artist best known for his highly stylized wildlife illustrations, and this stunning appliqué pattern is based on his Trumpeter Swan design. Using a minimalist approach, he managed to capture the essence of the swan using the fewest possible visual elements. Fabric requirements include: 1 3/4 yd background and binding; 1 1/2 yd for backing; 1 1/2 yds for swan body and bottom strip; 7/8 yd for wing and puddle; fat quarter or scrap for sun; 1/3 yd for beak, eye, and legs.
