Free eQuilter Pattern – Regency Medallion

This week’s sumptuous Free Quilt Design features the lush florals of the Regency collection, with Violet, Turquoise, Emerald, Sapphire & Lapis Blue stylized flowers on a Black ground with opulent Gold metallic.

The pieced star is made from the stripe coordinate, cut on an angle. Then squares are set in to make the larger medallion star. This 72″ x 72″ quilt design is for intermediate quilters and you may find that a spray starch like our Terial Magic spray will help stabilize the bias cuts during construction.

You will love how this unique quilt design shows off the intricate flower designs of these fabrics, giving it the extra Dazzle-Factor of a pieced medallion.

Featuring the ‘Regency’ collection by Chong-A Hwang for Timeless Treasures.

Don’t miss the popular ‘Amazing Grace‘ and ‘Wild Tiger Eyes‘ quilt patterns!

Order the pattern as configured, or customize it to your liking with any of our thousands of fabrics. Just place your desired fabrics in your Wish List, and these fabrics will appear in the Fabric Selector below the pattern.

Happy Solstice!

This morning we opened Susan Carlson‘s April workshop for registration, and it is full now. We will have a wait list in case anybody’s plans change.

There are still seats left in MJ Kinman‘s Diamond Workshop. You may have seen her profiled in the current issue of Quiltfolk Magazine. Her gemstone patterns have been selling like hotcakes over the last year!

On this, the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, we celebrate that now these short winter days can only grow longer over the next several months. For those of you Down Under, it is the longest and perhaps the hottest day. We’ve been watching the reports of the fires in Australia, and we hope that our quilter friends and the wildlife are able to stay safe. The decimation of koala habitat in recent fires is devastating. Aussie friends, we are thinking of you.

You may notice that we have a beautiful new eQuilter mousepad, inspired by one of our most popular exclusive digital prints. Is your old mousepad getting a little dingy and frayed? Treat yourself to a beautiful new Solstice Night mousepad – only $6.95!

Because we have so many dog-lovers on our eQuilter subscriber list, we’ve expanded our range of 7/8″ jacquard ribbons, plus all the hardware needed to make a snazzy new doggie collar and leash.

As you attend to your last minute shopping and holiday preparations this weekend, remember that eQuilter Gift Certificates are the perfect last minute gift for your quilter friends…or maybe drop a hint for your OWN gift certificate! (delivered instantly by email.)

Free eQuilter Pattern – Amazing Grace

This is the time of year when we renew family traditions, and one of those beloved traditions in our family is the song “Amazing Grace”.

My grandparents sang this song as a young couple, then years later sang to their children. Then when my kids were little it was part of our bedtime routine that I would sing this song once they were tucked in bed. Is it part of your family tradition also?

This week’s exclusive eQuilter Free Quilt Pattern uses the song’s lyrics in a central panel, plus 4 coordinates from the collection, and a Hoffman Teal Hand-Dye accent. The 48″ x 66″ quilt design makes up into a lovely wallhanging, or a comforting lap quilt. My grandma would have loved this quilt hanging on the wall over her piano!

London Calling!

Sometimes it is good to get away for a few days to get a fresh perspective. I am just back from a long 4-day weekend in London to see an ill friend. I scored some cheap last minute air tickets because I arrived on Election Day. Sometimes timing is everything, right?

The photo above is taken in the Royal Opera Theatre, the night I got a last minute seat in the nosebleed section to see the Sleeping Beauty ballet. Oh my, the costumes were absolutely fabulous, so the next day I signed up for the backstage tour including the costume workshop…and got to see some of those costumes up close. The theater (or theatre, in British English) is an absolute jewelbox, built in 1858 after 2 previous theaters burnt to the ground on that location.

I’ve included some London-inspired fabrics (and a collectible tea towel!) above, that tell the story of my long weekend. Yes that story includes Gandalf. I went to see Sir Ian McKellen’s one man show and I have to say that 80 year old man is an incredible inspiration. To cobble together so many spontaneous passages from Shakespeare and Tolkien into a 3-hour evening of stories and laughter…and tears…is something most of us could not dream of at any age. Besides my kids were impressed that I got a photo with Ian, which is also a miracle. Ha!

If you are placing orders for Christmas, tomorrow (December 19) is pretty much the last day you can place an order for our eQuilter elves to process and ship this week by FedEx 2 Day and arrive by Tuesday. Otherwise – don’t forget about our fantastic eQuilter Gift Certificates which can be sent instantly by email! Quilters love to have money to spend here after the holidays, when they are settling in for the Winter Sewing Season. Hey, maybe YOU should drop a hint for an eQuilter Gift Certificate. *smile*

A Better World Video and London Christmas

Here is a link to our 3rd video from Houston, with Lyric Kinard narrating a tour of “A Better World” exhibit. If you look closely, you might catch my portrait of Kathy Price, the director of Mission of Love, one of our longtime charity recipients. Our congratulations to all of the artists who created these portraits of their personal heroes!

As you may know, I am writing to you from London England this evening. I here visiting a friend who has been in and out of the hospital this year, and I managed to get very cheap tickets because I arrived on Election Day. Apparently nobody wants to fly to London on Election Day.

Yesterday I went on a tour of the Royal Opera House, including the costume department! They have about 24 people working at the Covent Garden location (yes the same Covent Garden in My Fair Lady), making costumes for opera and ballet. Lots of velvet and tulle lots of embroidery and applique. They have another costume and set production center in Thurrock, where they employ apprentices in scenic art, carpentry, metal work and costuming. The last ten years I have been trying to go on backstage tours whenever possible… from Opera houses to Ballet and Shakespeare theaters… to peek into the costume workshops and storage rooms. I have a friend who is a costume curator and we’ve talked about putting together a costume tour in Europe someday. You never know!

Tonight, my London friend took me to see the one-man-show with 80 year old Sir Ian McKellen, and it was one of the most fantastic evenings of theater I’ve ever seen. (You will probably know him as Gandalf in the LOTR movies, but his award-winning career spans 6 decades and countless Shakespeare plays.) I actually got a photo with him, which I am posting on my Facebook page. When we came out after the show, it was raining cats and dogs. I walked about a mile back to my hotel amid sirens and a monsoon-like rain, and every article of over- and under-garments were soaked and now there are flood warnings. But hey, it rains in London, right?

I did visit Liberty of London today, because I especially wanted to see their seasonal Christmas Shop on the top floor. I thought I was going to a museum today, but I ended up spending most of my time at Liberty, then walking back on Regent Street peeking in shops and dodging singing costumed elves and a bicycle-riding mob of Santas. Tomorrow is my museum day, and I fly home Monday after a very inspiring long weekend. Hope you are having a productive pre-holiday weekend!

The Blessing of a Generous Heart

The “Maker” trend has been growing and extending from older to younger generations for many years now. The idea of making something special for a loved one, instead of buying a plastic manufactured gift, has been gaining traction as we all think about the non-sustainability of giving more stuff to people who already have too much stuff. However the value of a one-of-a-kind handmade gift …is becoming more precious than ever.

The busy noisy world of holiday retail stands in stark contrast to the beauty of a Full Moon shining on a silent snowy winter landscape. More and more we find ourselves drawn to home…to stitch, to cook, to spend time with our loved ones. Is there anything more cherished than a cold snowy day spent indoors with our fabric, needle and thread, anticipating the joy our gift will bring?

When we bring a Christmas tree into our home, and the house fills with the fragrance of evergreen, we find ourselves longing to breathe in the intersection between the Natural World and our busy human holiday world. The holiday season is filled with these intersections…poinsettias for the table, snowflakes on our eyelashes, winter birds twittering at our birdfeeder, the sound of migrating geese overhead, and of course the Nature-themes that we love in our quilt fabrics!

The bald eagles are migrating through our area this week. We had 2 of them circling over our house today, and I saw a 3rd one perched on a telephone pole near a busy intersection. When I see them, I stop and pull over, and savor the moment. This is a gift that Nature gives to us freely, just as we give our handmade gifts to our friends and family. As we finish putting our loving stitches in our holiday projects, we experience a full heart and remember…that it is more sacred to give than to receive. Quilters know the blessing of a generous heart. We know our love will keep on giving through our quilts, long after our needles are put away.
