Your Free Quilt Pattern – World of Wonder

Mother Nature stands sentinel over land and sea, night and day, birds and mammals, in this exquisitely detailed scene by artist Josephine Wall. Dolphins leap and a lion smiles over Gaia’s shoulder, as the Sun and Moon shine over a fertile Earth and the shimmering seas.

To make this 65″ x 73″ quilt design, you will start with the fantastic 36″ x 44″ scenic panel. A second block panel is cut up to make the 4 corners, and the Crescent Moon print makes a dramatic border. Magical dreams await whoever sleeps beneath this enchanting quilt!

Your Free Quilt Pattern – Kittens in the Garden

Everything is better with Kittens!

These four adorable kitties are having fun and maybe getting up to a little baby-mischief in the garden shed. Our exclusive eQuilter Free Quilt Pattern features the artwork of one of our longtime favorite animal artists – Bob Giordano.

To make this 56″ x 66″ quilt design, you will start with the central 24″ x 44″ panel. You will use the Kitty Stripe and 2 Powder Blue coordinates to make the engineered stripe which is actually a fast simple border. These furry babies are peeking out of flower pots and buckets, Wellies and wheelbarrows, with spring flowers and butterflies all around. A delightful celebration of a colorful season!

The Fox in the Back Yard

Have I mentioned we have a fox that lives behind the eQuilter warehouse? I’ve been staying late, driving home at dusk, and I’ve seen the fox out back or down the road several times. In a neighborhood close by, there is a fox den spilling over with cute little fox kits, much to the delight of the residents. This time of year as the wildlife comes out to feed and raise their young, it adds a touch of joy to the season. Sophie works as an usher at our big auditorium on the CU campus. She has caught the wildlife photo bug too. There was a herd of deer in front of the venue, and she dropped everything to take a photo, and text it to my phone. When I see the fox on the way home, I take photos and send them to our kids.

We are surrounded by wildlife, and when we spot a wild creature, it is something we share and celebrate.

I started having bear encounters when I was about 12, when I was at music camp in the mountains. Ever since then I have had bear and fox sightings – too numerous to count – and it has shaped my concerns about habitat preservation and protecting wildlife. When you have stared into the eyes of a beautiful wild creature and seen their sensitive soul through those eyes, it changes you in ways you can’t predict.

On Saturday I heard that Russian hackers are jamming websites that are raising money for Ukrainian refugees, and I worried that our fundraiser request Saturday might be affected. Sure enough, our blog host went down for most of Sunday, so I am sending out this request one more time:

Kathy Price at Mission of Love is working to load trucks, load containers, and ship supplies to Ukraine. She has shipped 13,000 lbs of rice to Kyiv by container, arriving in May. They are shipping food, medical supplies, equipment for Ukraine fire departments, and your donated quilts…and the biggest challenge now is to raise the money to pay for the shipping expenses. She normally would use the free international shipping of the Denton Program, but they will not fly into the area as long as it is an active war zone. So we have to pick up the slack for the shipping expenses. eQuilter is sending thousands of dollars to help purchase relief supplies and pay for shipping the quilts, but can you also help with a few dollars?

If 5% of the people who receive this email will send $5 each, we could raise $30,000 for Ukrainian refugee relief. Will you take a moment to go to the Mission of Love Gofundme page to make a small contribution? You can also go to the Mission of Love page and donate by paypal on their home page.

$5 for Mission of Love Shipping Expenses?

Mothers Day, graduations, and weddings are on the horizon…in a week it will be MAY. How did that happen? The yellow forsythias are blazing with color, our crabapple trees are bursting into bloom this weekend, and the lilac buds are swelling. I had an outdoor visit with my mom today since the nursing home is having another outbreak. While I waited for them to bring her out, I gazed at a spindly spirea shrub, bravely putting forth a sprinkling of tiny white blossoms….and somehow that gave me hope. The news from Ukraine continues to horrify, and I know many of you feel it in the pit of your stomach like me, and yet somehow Spring has come again.

How do we cope with the news? For myself, it helps to know I am doing something to help. I know if we all work together we can make a difference. Between all the quilts dropped off at eQuilter, and all the quilts you have shipped to Mission of Love, we are approaching 1000 donated comfort quilts this week.

Kathy Price is working to load trucks, load containers, and ship supplies to Ukraine. She has shipped 13K lbs of rice to Kyiv by container, arriving in May. They are shipping food, medical supplies, equipment for Ukraine fire departments, and your donated quilts…and the biggest challenge now is to raise the money to pay for the shipping expenses. Your Free Quilt Pattern – Seasons of Ukraine

We are so grateful to all of our friends, customers, and the quilt guilds who have contributed to our comfort quilt drive for Ukrainian refugees. We are sending more money to Mission of Love to help pay for the shipping expenses to Poland – and we also are so thankful to those of you who have also contributed directly to Mission of Love to help ship the food, medical supplies, equipment for firemen, and donated quilts.

Due to popular demand we have rushed a reprint of our exclusive Ukrainian Dancer panel, and we are introducing a 2nd ‘sister’ panel this week. We continue to support Mission of Love, Doctors Without Borders, and several other organizations helping those affected by this devastating war. Thank you for the support of our charity program, which continues to help those in need.

We offer this free quilt pattern as a prayer for peace for the Ukrainian people. Choose “Mission of Love” as your charity when you check out, and we’ll be adding our additional donations to your 2% of this purchase.

Missing Japan

It has been more than 2 years since I’ve been to Japan, which is very sad after 12 years attending the Tokyo Quilt Festival. I am following my Japanese friends on Facebook, as they post Sakura (cherry blossom) photos, and their first post-pandemic small quilt exhibits.

I miss walking through 2 panels of dark blue Noren panels to enter the neighborhood sushi bar. I miss the Ginza shops (especially the paper shop!) and the endless aisles of cute Kawaii animals.

And I miss the Japanese quilters and their amazing works of art. I miss the mobs of visitors gathering around the intricate quilts, with 50 cell phones all trying to get the same shot. It is a wonderful craziness that may never be replicated. I miss running into friends from Australia, France, Spain, New Zealand, Taiwan, and America, as I wander through the aisles at the Tokyo Dome.

But from those years when many of us traveled to the Tokyo Quilt Festival, there is a love and appreciation of Sashiko Stitching that has taken hold. It has overflowed and overlapped with an interest in Kantha stitching, and now is exploding further as Modern embroidery. We’ve had fun expanding our eQuilter selection of big threads, big needles, and thimbles to accommodate this new passion. We’re smiling as this renewed love of hand-stitching washes over the quilting world.

For those of you who still pine for the beauty of Japanese patchwork and stitching, we’ve continued to stock imported Japanese books. We also have new issues and back issues of Japanese quilting magazines.

Did you know that when we started our business in the basement of our house in March 1999, we had a few hundred bolts of Asian prints and Balinese batiks? After living and working in Asia, my love of these special textiles was the foundation of our business. They still have a special place in my fabriholic heart.

Luana and Paul

Your Free Quilt Pattern – Shawl Dancers

This week we are featuring the brilliant artwork of Daniel Ramirez, with indigenous fancy shawl dancers. If you have ever gone to a Native American PowWow, you may have seen this rhythmic dancing with flashy embroidered shawls and ribbonwork. The dance represents the butterfly emerging from a cocoon, with the fringe swinging to the beat of the dancers.

To make this 50″ x 50″ quilt design, you will be piecing the stripe and allover dancer prints, with alternating Sky Blue and Black backgrounds, layered with solid Kona Black to create
an eye-popping work of art full of movement and color!
