To all of you mothers, grandmothers, mama bear mentors, super-aunties, and people with daughters and mothers….I wish you a fulsome Mother’s Day with plenty of time to hug your loved ones. It is my first M Day since I lost my mother. Sophie Quinn and I are celebrating, and remembering my pianist mother, by going to the opera. She will be with us in spirit.

Last night almost the whole world was treated to a magical gift from the Universe – a display of Northern Lights that stretched to Colorado and points south. At midnight Sam and I went to the dark parking lot at Celestial Seasonings, and when our eyes adjusted, we saw the Aurora Borealis on the northern horizon which I have never experienced in Colorado. I took several photos and found that my camera could see the lights better than my eyes. They are predicting more on Sunday night, so if your skies are clear, get outside Sunday evening and set your phone or camera to ‘night photo’ and hold your camera very still because the shutter will stay open for a few seconds.

After you experience the Aurora and wipe that big grin off your face, you can make a quilt to remember the experience, with our many fabrics depicting the Northern Lights<\/strong>.<\/a> I suppose this is also a Mother’s Day gift from the big mama herself – Mother Earth. You have to have a planet with a magnetic field, to attract the solar coronal plasma ejection, and turn it into dancing colors in the sky.
