Tonight I’ll be arriving in Houston, to photograph the quilt show, and meet up with the quilting community. On the eve of this big show, I’d like to share with you one of my favorite quilts from the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham UK this summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is “Blooming Mandala” by Helen Creasey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You may remember that a year ago I shared her amazing foundation-pieced giant mermaid quilt<\/a> from that same show. (Which won Viewers Choice) In the last year I tracked her down, and met her on my two trips to the UK in 2024. This fabulous eye-popping quilt is a great example of the ‘Black & White & Color’ trend that I talk about, in my ‘International Quilt Trends’ Zoom lectures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Helen’s masterful machine quilting earned her a nice cash prize, which I am sure she spent on more fabric. Ha! Helen is a busy mom with school-aged children so we take off our hat to the Super-Moms who can produce award-winning quilts and raise a family. I did it, so I know what it takes!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As always, I’ll be editing my photos of the best quilts to share with you after Houston.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will be attending artist talks at 11 am and 3 pm on both Friday and Saturday, to talk about my quilts in the SAQA Camouflage exhibit and the Sacred Threads exhibit. Exciting news – a detail of my butterfly quilt is on the cover of the Camouflage show book! I’ve printed up postcards of this quilt and they will be on the SAQA table, so please come by and pick up a postcard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
