* Winter Dreams *<\/p>\n

Oh my goodness, we’re just bursting with excitement about all we have planned for you in 2016! In the meantime we’ve been wishing for a really good snow to put us in the mood for Christmas<\/a>, and today we got 9 inches of snow… Wish granted! Sophie and all the kids in the area were off school for a Snow Day<\/a>, and our dogs had way too much fun romping and prancing in the snowdrifts.<\/p>\n

It has been a very full year for me and our family. My travels took me to New Zealand, Mexico, QuiltCon, Sacred Threads, Quilt National, England, and Cuba. Our son Sam turned 18, graduated from high school, and started college. Sophie got sick from the toxic gases at her school, we moved her to a different school midyear, and I became a parent activist. On top of it all, I officiated at a wedding in Chautauqua Park, where Paul and I got married 20 years ago. Paul lost his dad and his sister, and as our puppies grew into dogs, they gave us great joy and solace.<\/p>\n

But you know, that’s the way life goes, right? You have all had the same kind of year no doubt\u2026just full to the brim with changes, challenges, family rites of passages, losses and new beginnings. As I look forward to 2016, I know it will be just as full of those changes and challenges, rollercoasters of emotion, and opportunities that I don’t want to miss. As my 92 year old mother-in-law says\u2026. Life is what happens when you are busy making plans. However that never stopped us from making goals for the future. We are busy mapping out new projects, and intriguing ideas for the coming year. If I don’t make a list of goals and a map for the new year, I tend to settle deeply into the groove of my familiar routine.<\/p>\n

How about you? What changes would you like to make for 2016? Creating or upgrading a studio space? Buying a new sewing machine? Taking a class with an artist whose work inspires you? Using a totally different color palette? Entering a piece in a prestigious exhibition? Or perhaps taking a deep breath and working on the meditative practice of Slow Stitching?<\/p>\n

This passion for fabric, color and stitching is what brings us joy, and brings us closer to our inner truth. It heals our hearts and minds, and clears away the mental clutter. It connects us to a community of like-minded souls who share themselves by making things for others to enjoy. Occasionally there is chocolate, tea, or even wine to share with these friends, and it feels like we have found our tribe, and come home.<\/p>\n

As you head into the busy holiday season, hold a space for that quiet time that comes in the New Year, when we can gather our thoughts and delve into our stash, and pursue our dreams of creative bliss.<\/p>\n
