Guess what? I never made it home Wednesday night! Because of the big blizzard in Colorado, the airport was closed, all the flights were canceled, and I couldn’t get a flight until today!<\/p>\n

I have been “stuck” in Washington DC for 3 nights, which means I got to see the peak of the Cherry Blossom Festival<\/a>, and I was able to connect with several friends who live and work here. So I have been busy making lemonade from lemons the last few days. However I will be very happy to finally get home tonight.<\/p>\n

Last night I visited my friend Alden who is the textile, quilt & costume curator at the DAR Museum<\/a>, and I got a sneak peek at the costume exhibit she is assembling for later this year. I will be sure to give you information about this exhibit when it opens. Her enthusiastic commentaries about each piece always make me excited to see how it all turns out!<\/p>\n

Yesterday one of my SAQA friends took me out to see the Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens<\/a>, and its incredible collection of Russian art. WOW! I had never heard of this place, but will definitely go back! If you are visiting the DC area and have a car, I would highly recommend spending a half day touring the collection and the grounds. Thanks Ellen!<\/p>\n

I also walked around the Tidal Basin<\/a> Thursday with another local quilter friend, and about a million other cherry blossom peepers. We found a bench on the far side under a gracefully drooping cherry tree, and had fun people-watching.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the day we met at the newly re-opened Renwick Gallery<\/a>, which is just 1 block from the White House. The current installation “Wonder”<\/a> is a fantasy experience that will make any adult feel like a kid again…and it’s free!<\/p>\n

Sophie has now raised $3000 and is still fundraising<\/a>, in honor of her 5 year old cousin Lola who has had a relapse of cancer. Sophie was incredibly brave and had all her hair shaved off on Mar 16, at a St. Baldrick’s Day fundraiser event. The money raised goes toward research to find a cure for children’s cancer.<\/p>\nShare Post:<\/strong>
