This
\nlast week<\/a> I've been very distracted looking at all the fabulous masks and costumes<\/a> at Carnivale in Venice<\/a>. You may recall
\nthat in September I gave 2 presentations at the US
\nEmbassy in Rome<\/a>, thanks to my American friend Susan Fiorentino who was the
\ncurator of the quilt show there. I was extended an invitation to go to Carnivale
\nin Feb 2014 – to dress up in period costume and go to private events with some
\nresidents of Venezia. Now that the 2013 holiday is past, Carnivale 2014 seems
\nlike more of a reality! Very exciting! <\/p>\n

I am also rummaging through my
\nfiles of photos from the Tokyo<\/a>
\nQuilt Festival, and I wanted to share another viruoso quilt that is a mixture of
\npiecing with vintage silks, and intricate appliqued dots. This large octopus
\nquilt was very eye-catching at the show: it was impossible to walk by without
\ngasping!<\/p>\n

One thing that always catches one's eye at this show are the
\nincredible quilts with hundreds of appliqued circles and dots. I met one
\naward-winning quilter whose spiral quilt design had over 2000 appliqued dots!
\nThe mind boggles… but the quilt is exquisite.<\/p>\n

Do you remember in August
\n2011 when I did a
\nvideo at the Birmingham show of the Tentmakers of Cairo<\/a>? There is a fundraiser for a documentary about
\nthese amazing men and their beautiful applique work in Cairo<\/a>, but time for
\nfundraising is running out. This documentary will
bring their work to a much
\nbigger audience and, for one of the higher donation levels, gives you an
\nopportunity to own a small sample of their
intricate applique
\nwork.<\/p>\n

You may have read about my Color Marketing Group conferences, and
\nwished that you could go. Guess what? There are several regional
\nCMG ChromaZone meetings coming up<\/a> – the Denver-area ChromaZone is March 8 at
\nthe Hunter Douglas campus in Broomfield, and you don't have to be a member to
\nattend. However you DO have to prepare a color forecast presentation with color
\nswatches, for this working color-forecasting workshop.<\/p>\n

A reminder that I
\nwill be giving a power point presentation on Modern Color Trends at QuiltCon –
