This lovely door is from the medieval Church of St.
\nTrophime in Arles<\/a>, France.
\nThis church was built between the 12th and 15th centuries, and is a great example of Romanesque architecture.
\nIt was built on the site of a 5th century basilica.<\/p>\n

However, the first time I saw this entrance, all I could see was a quilt!<\/p>\n

In October when I went on a tour to the Quilt Museum in LaGrange Texas<\/a>, there was a vintage applique quilt that looked just like this door – but with mint green<\/a> branches and an ivory background!<\/a> Honest!<\/p>\n

When I look at this set of heavy wooden doors<\/a> and wrought iron artwork, I see pieced strips with applique.
\nDo you think this is Hawaiian applique, or Baltimore Album applique, or…
\n?<\/p>\n

When I travel, I take lots of design reference photos like this one.
\nI love to think about taking ancient or vintage design motifs, and making them new again.<\/p>\n

Do you have photos from a past trip, that might render some inspiring
\ndesign ideas? Do you like to take photos of "pretty" architectural
\ndetails, that might be translated into fabric?<\/p>\n

When I look at this photo and imagine the quilt I might make, I am imagining the white trees as applique, on a frosty blue<\/a> background.<\/p>\n
