Quilters know that the
\nholiday season is all about GIVING.<\/a>..that's what we do best! <\/p>\n

Between
\nour Hurricane Sandy
\nQuilt Relief project<\/a>, and my trip to support eQuilter's charity Mission of Love<\/a> in Guatemala this week,
\nI am appreciating the smiles and warmth that your quilts are
\nsharing.<\/p>\n

Last weekend 350 of
\nyour donated quilts were distributed to Sandy victims in New Jersey,<\/a> and
\nthis week I helped to distribute dozens of
\nquilts to children in Guatemala<\/a>. (donated to Mission of Love<\/a> by Sue Jerin and her
\nfriends in Ohio – thanks!)<\/p>\n

If you read my midweek Creative Nudge
\nnewsletter, you know that I got to sit in on an entire cleft lip surgery up
\nclose, and was looking in on cleft palate surgeries as well. Kathy Price really
\nwanted me to see the work that eQuilter has
\nsupported all these years<\/a> – and spending these 3 days with Mission of Love<\/a> in Guatemala was
\nbittersweet to say the least. <\/p>\n

On Sunday we gave a quilt to each of the
\nchildren who had come hoping for a surgery, and on Tuesday we brought quilts to
\nan orphanage in a mountain village. Twenty-five orphans were each wrapped in
\ntheir very own quilt, and given lots of love and hugs from our group. There were
\nmany tears – from both the kids and the volunteer team – and I know at least a
\ncouple people there started thinking about overseas adoption.<\/p>\n

If you've
\never been to a developing country, and witnessed the grinding relentless poverty
\nexperienced by people living in shantytowns and dirt-floor shacks, you have
\ndoubtless felt the same emotions that I have: feeling very lucky to live in a
\ndeveloped country, and feeling like you must do something to help the children
\nand elderly who are affected the most. <\/p>\n

As I stood in a tiny one-room
\n"home" with a dirt floor and patched plastic-and-tin roof, and wrapped the
\nresident in a beautiful donated quilt, I gave thanks that I've found myself in a
\njob that allows me to connect wonderful generous quilters with those who are in
\nsuch desperate need. It is truly a blessing to have the opportunity to be the
\nintermediary…and be able to tell the story to those who
\nwish to listen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I am editing down my 3000 photos to a few hundred
\nthat I am sharing on my photo
\npage<\/a>, so you can walk into those homes with me and see what we are doing
\ntogether. If you feel compelled to have a similar experience, go to the Mission of Love<\/a> website and check out
\nthe other mission trips scheduled for the coming year. <\/p>\n

We also finished
\ndistributing
\nthe last few quilts for Colorado Fire victims<\/a> this last week, and now we
\nwill put all our energy into helping those on the East Coast who are facing a bleak holiday
\nseason after Hurricane Sandy.<\/a> <\/p>\n
