Yes, we ARE initiating a disaster relief quilt drive for those
\naffected by Hurricane Sandy<\/a>!<\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
The events of the past week have been so unbelievable. I will start by
\nsaying – for all of you affected by Hurricane Sandy – our most sincere thoughts
\nand prayers go out to you and your families, and your communities. <\/p>\n

We
\nhave been inundated with messages from all over the US and indeed around the
\nworld, expressing concern, and asking "how can we help?"…and and we are
\nhumbled at how many have reached out to us, asking us to coordinate another
\nquilt drive for the hurricane victims.<\/p>\n

The answer is – yes of course we
\nwill coordinate another disaster relief effort. I have asked the director of
\nMission of Love to help us again, and Kathy has agreed. <\/p>\n

So tonight I am
\nissuing a challenge to our friends, customers, our guild contacts, and anyone
\nelse who wants to help:<\/p>\n

We are going to
\ncollect and distribute 5000 quilts to those affected by Hurricane
\nSandy.<\/a><\/p>\n

We will work to make sure that the quilts go to those most
\ndrastically affected by the hurricane's destruction.<\/p>\n

Right now almost all
\nof my east coast contacts are dealing some difficult aspect of post-storm
\ntrauma. Some are "just" dealing with no power, no heat, no water, no food and no
\ngas. All of this with another storm bearing down on the area.<\/p>\n

Others have
\nhad their cars smashed, their boat washed out to sea, and the worst so far is
\none of our industry's beloved talents has had her house smashed by a tree…but
\nthey escaped with their lives. Another contact had a neighbor killed by a
\nfalling tree. They all say – they feel so lucky not to have sustained the
\ndevastation suffered by their neighbors. <\/p>\n

From what I am hearing from my
\neast coast contacts, the destruction and power outages are so widespread, that
\nwe can't possibly comprehend the scope of the situation. <\/p>\n

As this quilt
\ndrive comes into focus, as I get in touch with my various industry contacts, I will update
\nthis page daily.<\/a> There will be another detailed update in my Creative Nudge
\non Tuesday night, so watch for that as you stay up to watch Election
\nReturns<\/a>. (It is almost over – yeah!)<\/p>\n

It has been my experience with this type of disaster, that bed-sized quilts
\nare what is most needed. <\/div>\n
 <\/div>\n
We will accept lap-sized quilts and crib quilts, but we really encourage
\nyou to send at least twin or full sized quilts for those who have lost
\neverything. We want to keep these people WARM for the winter, so if you can send
\nit soon that is best, but we will continue this project for many months.<\/div>\n

We will not be accepting afghans, pillowcases, or other non-quilt items. We
\nwant to stay focused on our goal of collecting and distributing 5000
\nquilts.<\/div>\n
