An issue that is coming to the forefront at Quilt Festival in Houston – prizewinning quilts that are copies or interpretations of another artist’s work:<\/p>\n

Quilt artists copying another artist’s painting or photograph *always* need to get permission and give credit to that original artist. Quilt artists who DO give credit to the original artist (and who DO get permission) should not be bullied online. We as a community need to set a benchmark for how these derivative quilts should be properly identified, so it is not such an explosive issue. If you are making a quilt from another artist’s work – BEWARE.<\/p>\n
