Here the Tolstoys received guests and held musical and literary evenings, with visitors such as Rachmaninoff, Rimsky-Korsakov, Chekhov and Gorky.&#0160; Here Tolstoy read his manuscripts to family and close friends, and also played chess.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017d3c785235970c1.jpg\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSC_6138\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a0120a82c6029970b017d3c785235970c image-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017d3c785235970c-800wi1.jpg\" title=\"DSC_6138\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>In the adjoining family salon, there are a lot of textile treasures:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017c324a0e93970b1.jpg\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSC_6151\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a0120a82c6029970b017c324a0e93970b image-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017c324a0e93970b-800wi1.jpg\" title=\"DSC_6151\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>The family employed a dressmaker, and several of Countess Tolstoy&#39;s and her daughter&#39;s dresses are displayed:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017ee3edbfc7970d1.jpg\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSC_6155\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a0120a82c6029970b017ee3edbfc7970d image-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017ee3edbfc7970d-800wi1.jpg\" title=\"DSC_6155\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div>In the back you can look into Tolstoy&#39;s study, and see the desk where he wrote his stories.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017d3c7858ff970c1.jpg\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSC_6158\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a0120a82c6029970b017d3c7858ff970c image-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017d3c7858ff970c-800wi1.jpg\" title=\"DSC_6158\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>In the back there is a lovely garden area which is really a small forest! The red brick walls that are the boundaries of the property, are really the walls of textile mills that were there at the time the family lived in the house.<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>\n<a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017c324a161e970b1.jpg\" style=\"display: inline;\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DSC_6165\" border=\"0\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a0120a82c6029970b017c324a161e970b image-full\" src=\"https:\/\/www.equilter.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/10\/6a0120a82c6029970b017c324a161e970b-800wi1.jpg\" title=\"DSC_6165\" \/><\/a><\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div>They say that the cats that wander the property are the descendents of the cats that lived with the family.
