Sometimes it is good to get away for a few days to get a fresh perspective. I am just back from a long 4-day weekend in London to see an ill friend. I scored some cheap last minute air tickets because I arrived on Election Day. Sometimes timing is everything, right?

The photo above is taken in the Royal Opera Theatre, the night I got a last minute seat in the nosebleed section to see the Sleeping Beauty ballet<\/a><\/strong>. Oh my, the costumes were absolutely fabulous, so the next day I signed up for the backstage tour including the costume workshop…and got to see some of those costumes up close. The theater (or theatre, in British English) is an absolute jewelbox, built in 1858 after 2 previous theaters burnt to the ground on that location.

I’ve included some London-inspired fabrics (and a collectible tea towel!) above<\/a>,<\/strong> that tell the story of my long weekend. Yes that story includes Gandalf<\/a><\/strong>. I went to see Sir Ian McKellen’s one man show and I have to say that 80 year old man is an incredible inspiration. To cobble together so many spontaneous passages from Shakespeare and Tolkien into a 3-hour evening of stories and laughter…and tears…is something most of us could not dream of at any age. Besides my kids were impressed that I got a photo with Ian, which is also a miracle. Ha!
