A New School Year

Here we are again, sending young and old kids back to school and college, not knowing what the year will bring. We’ve been here before, and the parts that feel familiar from last year, are the parts we want to forget. 2021 feels like an extension of 2020, but the reality is….Christmas and New Years 2022 will be here before we know it. As we plan for the quilts and sewing projects we want to work on this Fall and Winter, we know that keep busy will help us to get to the other side of this…whatever ‘this’ is!

As of Saturday evening, Sophie is all moved out of our family home, into her first college apartment. She is starting her sophomore year as a Music Education Major. So it is a time of new beginnings for us here.

A couple days ago the organizers of the Houston Quilt Festival sent out a message about the upcoming event. Attendees will be required to wear a face mask, which honestly will probably result in more people feeling ok about going.

They further stated:

“If the situation warrants it as we draw closer to our shows, we may also add a requirement to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours of show entrance. The past 18 months have been unprecedented for our world, our industry, and our quilting community. But we are truly all in this together, and we strongly feel that this policy will serve as the best protection for everyone.”

This is the world we live in my friends, and since their event is in Texas, kudos to them for making our health and safety a priority.

I am taking a little mental health break this week, driving down to Santa Fe to attend the outdoor opera. It is the first trip I’ve taken since QuiltCon in Feb 2020! I am going to soak up the Southwest vibe, sleep and write, and charge up the creative batteries.

…sharing your love of fabric,
Luana and Paul
