BERNINA Ambassadors & Colors of the Year

I have just returned from the BERNINA Ambassadors’ Reunion at their US headquarters near Chicago, and as always it was a great opportunity to play on some amazing sewing and longarm machines, meet peers from the industry, and network on a variety of topics….i.e. I didn’t get much sleep…ha! I also got the scoop on some hot new products and you see those popping up in the newsletter over the next month or two. When all these brilliant artisans, authors and teachers get together, we get very excited about sharing new tools and fun sewing techniques!

Many thanks to Jeanne and the tireless BERNINA USA staff who planned, hosted and trained us, with their passion for sewing, and generous technical know-how. I am truly honored to be included in this group year after year!

Here are some photos from when I went to Switzerland with the group in 2006. The best part was touring the factory! I was very fortunate to have Libby Lehman as one of my mentors in the group, and we miss her so much. If you subscribe to her Caring Bridge page, you know that she has recently begun to sew again which is a miracle.

You may recall that 3 weeks ago I was at the Color Marketing Group conference in San Diego, and one of the attendees was Lee Eiseman who chooses and announces the Pantone Color of the Year. These days the Color of the Year is chosen way in advance of its announcement, because Pantone partners with companies such as Sephora to create licensed products with this color.

This year for the first time, there are TWO Colors of the Year for 2016, and as usual they are already generating controversy. It is two pastel colors – Rose Quartz is a pastel pink, and Serenity is a pastel blue. A lot of people think they are just Baby Pink and Baby Blue which of course was not Pantone’s intention, but when you view them over the internet I suspect the subtleties of the colors have been lost. Meanwhile Sephora has come out with 2 new lipsticks in these colors. We’ll see if anyone will want to wear a pastel blue lipstick…

I am home for the holidays, and my next trip is not until the week of January 18, when I go to Tokyo for the Quilt Festival there.
