Creative Nudge – A Joyful Heart

Untitled-1

This week I am sharing a favorite quilt (with some beautiful stitching) from the Sacred Threads quilt exhibit, which will be traveling to other venues soon. (Scroll to the bottom of this page for dates.)

This quilt by Nancy M. Cash is actually a full figure in a long vertical banner shape, but I am sharing a closeup of the top of the quilt so you can see Nancy’s fancy threadwork.

It used to be that quilters would try to choose the thread that would be the most matchy-matchy color, so the thread would disappear into the fabric when quilted.

Now quilters are choosing threads with high contrast, and showing off their fancy quilting skills!

This piece is called “My Song”, and the artist writes that “The joy of creating a beautiful quilt is equated to singing a beautiful song.”

Can you see the Joy expressed in this quilt?

To me, colors are an expression of Joy. I’ve chosen some joyful colors and fabrics in a collage around Nancy’s joyful singer!

I’m preparing for some more joyful colors, on my trip to Cuba next week. I’ll be flying to Florida Friday, and then it’s a short hop on a chartered plane to Havana on Saturday. I don’t expect to have great internet service in Cuba, but I’ll try to stay in touch!
