Creative Nudge – Many Ways to See

Tonight we are marking the passing of Nancy Zieman, who lost her battle with cancer Tuesday. She was a gracious and generous lady…a true icon of our industry. Gone too soon.

As you may know, I have recently been to TWO quilt festivals, and I can’t help but think about parallels between quilts in Houston, and quilts in New Zealand.

Here are two Owl quilts with two very different perspectives, but both are very effective at communicating the artist’s vision.

The top left corner is “Whooo” by Mimi Ghauri Young, and was seen in the Houston exhibit.

The top right corner was the winner of the Hoffman challenge in New Zealand, and was made by Hayley Scott. Notice the surfboards that make up the feathers!

The bottom half is a collage of owl fabrics we have in stock now, with more artist/illustrator interpretations of Owls. There are SO many owl fabrics available in the market now – both realistic and pop/whimsical. Something for everyone!

This is a reminder that whatever vision you have for your next project, follow your own ideas and it will result in a more successful piece.

In case you missed the big announcement last week, the first prize for the Love Your Mother Quilt Challenge will be a brand new model machine from BERNINA –
the 570 QE which was just introduced in Houston at the Quilt Festival! You can purchase the challenge panel here, but read over the guidelines first.

If you or your quilt guild have been making quilts for hurricane and earthquake victims, you can either drop them off in person at eQuilter, or ship them directly to Mission of Love (MOL) at:

Kathy Price
Mission of Love
2054 Hemlock Ct.
Youngstown, Ohio 44515

Do NOT ship to eQuilter: ship directly to MOL so they will reach those in need faster. Otherwise they have to be shipped twice. MOL is our trusted partner and will distribute them to those most in need. Together we have distributed over 12,000 of your donated comfort quilts. The next container of hurricane relief supplies is going to the Island of Dominica and will be loaded this Friday.

We are having another Sewing Day in the eQuilter classroom this Saturday from 9 am to 4 pm. We have many quilt tops that need to be sandwiched and quilted, and we have a roll of batting for this purpose. Please call Customer Service if you plan to join us, so we can plan for the right amount of quilters. Thank you.

sharing your Passion for Fabric…
Luana and Paul
