Creative Nudge – Mariposas Mi Amigas

Capture

This week I’d just like to bring you some lovely eye candy to make you smile and maybe dream a little.

This is a detail of a quilt from the Houston Quilt Festival’s Group Quilt category. (eQuilter sponsored the prizes in this category.) It was made by Gail Garber, Donna Barnitz, Afton Warrick and Kris Vierra from Albuquerque, New Mexico.

It was made with fused applique and freezer paper foundation piecing. The title means “Butterflies My Friends”. Gail is a quilt artist and teacher, known for these techniques. She also runs a raptor rescue center called Hawks Aloft… talented busy lady!

I’ve set a detail of the quilt, in a collage of favorite butterfly fabrics here at eQuilter.

To the Native Americans, butterflies were symbols of transformation, joy, renewal and rebirth. For the Chinese, they were a symbol of immortality and young love. They can also represent freedom and creativity… so if the Butterfly is your Spirit Animal, perhaps you will be inspired by these collectible large scale panels.
