Creative Nudge – People and Colors of Cuba

Untitled-1

Have you seen our 5 new videos from the Houston Quilt Festival? If not, please start with the People & Portraits video, to see the fantastic figurative work being done by fiber artists today.

Portrait art quilts are a popular trend now, and there are many new books out with a variety of different techniques to create stunning detailed portraits.

What comes before the portrait quilt? Often it is a photo that captures a gesture, a moment in time, a flash of personality.

I’d like to share this collage of photos that I took in Cuba, to give you some different ideas about portrait and figurative images. The subject doesn’t always have to be looking the viewer in the eye. Often when their gaze is elsewhere, our eye follows them, and we wonder what has captured their attention.

My trip to Cuba was fascinating, because it is a country frozen in time, and we all had the sense that it will not remain the same for long. I hope my photos here and on my photo pages have given you a sense of this island nation…it is like traveling back in time. If you are intrigued… join us on our May 2016 Cuban Arts Tour!
