Creative Nudge – Travel Themes

Untitled-1

This week I am writing to you just before I dash off to the airport. I head for the airport about once a month, but this one trip is extra special.

I am participating as an artist and a corporate sponsor, for a UN-sponsored exhibit “Water is Life”, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva Switzerland. The theme is Clean Water and its impact on the lives of women and girls around the world, on the occasion of World Water Day 2016.

I’ll be attending a private reception at the opening next week, but in a couple days I’ll get my UN badge and have a tour of the compound. How incredibly exciting!

This week peace talks for Syria are being held in Geneva, presumably at the United Nations compound. So perhaps I will see some comings and goings of the peacemakers. I’ll send a prayer for peace, and for the refugees while I am there…especially for the children.

Sophie is doing something quite remarkable this week, inspired by her 6 year old cousin who has had a relapse of cancer. Sophie has set a goal of raising $10,000 for children with cancer, and she is at $2K raised so far. (with the help of our friends and eQuilter fans – thank you!)

On Wednesday evening she will have her head shaved for St. Baldrick’s Day, and will donate her hair to make a wig for a kid who has lost their hair to cancer. This just blows my mind – I could not have done this at 13 years old! – but then again she has grown up in a family that always has a project to help children.

Speaking of which, Mission of Love is planning their next Cleft Palate/Cleft Lip Surgery trip to Guatemala, on May 1st. If you are a health care professional and want to have the experience of a lifetime, contact Kathy Price at Mission of Love about going as part of their support team!

You may recall that a few years ago I went on this annual trip, as the official photographer. (Including photos in the operating room during the surgeries.) Through eQuilter’s Charity Program, I have had some amazing experiences – with YOUR support! – so naturally I want to share the experiences with all of you. Watch for my photos and stories from the UN in Geneva, in next week’s newsletter.

On Monday March 21, I will also be speaking to a group of quilters in Cessy France, just over the border from Geneva. So I am going to need Euros and Swiss Francs on this trip! Also on Thursday a new friend is taking me on a daytrip to the medieval town of Annecy in France, so I’ll be taking photos to share with you in both France and Switzerland.

Hey I’ll be sure to have some Swiss chocolate and a glass of French wine for all of you while I am there! *grin*

If you are thinking about joining me on the Polar Bear Tour in November, I urge you to make a deposit to hold your place. They are holding this tour open for my group, but will open it to the general public April 15. Payment plans are available!
