eQuilter Labor Day Sale – New Timeless, Hoffman, Quilting Treasures

What is Meaningful?

Wednesday evening I got home from the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham UK. (Plus a couple extra days in the Worcestershire countryside with friends from London.) It was very meaningful to be involved with the SAQA exhibit “Forced to Flee” on the topic of refugees. I appreciated hearing some of the artists speak, at the lecture about the project. I am working on editing photos from the Festival of Quilts and my trip to Worcester, and will share them next week on my photo pages.

I have 2 quilts in this new companion book “Inspired by the Nation’s Capital” – an exhibit about Washington DC that will premiere at the Houston Quilt Festival. Congratulations to Donna DeSoto and all the artists involved in this project! Watch for my quilts (White House and Folger Shakespeare Library) in the book and the exhibit.

The CU Boulder Students are back this week, so traffic is heavy again, and the students were out enjoying today’s sunshine. Our warm weather is lasting longer than usual, so I have taken refuge reviewing our seasonal Autumn/Harvest category of fabrics. I may have to go spend some time with our Winter/Snow prints this weekend also. Ha.

With gas prices coming down, kids back in school, and cooler weather just around the corner (hopefully) I can feel my creative juices building up like a ripening peach. You know that feeling when you are full, ready to burst, but you are not quite sure what it is or where it will go? Now that we are in the almost-post-pandemic, I am anxious to break loose and take on new projects. Can you relate? But first, I need to go in and do some cleaning and organizing in my workspace. Perhaps you are doing the same thing this weekend….

One thing is very clear to me. Whatever I work on next must have meaning. It must have a purpose, or a goal. I am not sure yet if I will make an activist quilt, a healing quilt, or a skill-building quilt…but I know I need to make something that helps me to deal with a feeling of wasted time the last couple years. That feeling of an impending fertile explosion is a result of frustration I suppose, but I am determined to make it have meaning.

Are you having a mix of emotions around how to move into this almost-post-pandemic time also? You are not alone!

I would like to invite our local quilt guilds to come for tours again. Because we are still keeping our staff safe, I will schedule tours after-hours and we will limit the size of the group. If your group is interested in visiting us in the near future please contact us and I will schedule a time so I can personally lead a tour which will include my studio. It will be nice to see you in person and have a ‘normal’ gathering of quilters again.
