Today I dropped off all of our ballots. Here in Colorado we get our ballots in the mail, and there are lots of official ballot dropboxes, so I just drove over to the dropbox. There was a long line of cars but things were moving along, and there was a festive atmosphere. There was a guy on a bicycle taking photos or a video of the long line and folks putting their ballots in the slot. People were smiling and waving at each other – sharing the moment with strangers. I came home with a big sense of relief.
I’ve noticed that lately we’ve been watching a lot of escapist TV. You know, Sci-Fi, Historic Costume Dramas, and Magical Fantasy. Tonight we started watching the remake of “The Right Stuff” which Disney has expanded into a stylish retro series with buff wannabe astronauts. I enjoyed the attention to detail in the costumes, sets and especially the colors.
We got the very sad news that the MQX shows are closing down forever. Online classes and lectures and exhibits are going to be a bridge to whatever comes next in our industry, and if we want these events to survive, we have to support their interim efforts.
As the months have ticked by during the pandemic, I watch those trips I would have taken, also passing by on my calendar. This week I was supposed to go to San Diego to give a lecture at the opening of the 2020 Quilt Visions exhibit. But guess what? I am still giving the presentation, and you can join us on Saturday afternoon, and support the Visions Art Museum as well. You don’t need to be a member to purchase a ticket.
I’ll be giving a power point Zoom lecture on Contemporary Quilting Trends….showing quilt images from Tokyo and QuiltCon (the last 2 shows I was able to attend and photograph in person) and also quilts from this brand new Visions exhibit. I’ll be talking about art, design and color trends that will be influencing us for the next couple years. If you’d like a creative boost, and some ideas to fuel your 2021 quiltmaking, please join us and visit our blog to purchase your ticket now!
eQuilter is sponsoring *several* exhibits and online events this year, and we remain committed to supporting the industry through these challenging times. We thank you for your support, which allows us to sponsor many important events like the SAQA Textile Talks, the Votes for Women exhibit, Sacred Threads traveling hospital exhibit, and more…
with hope for the future…
