Today I am writing to you from New York, as I prepare to leave for the "Quilters Take Manhattan" conference at FIT. Tomorrow night I fly to Italy, and next weekend I will be at the US Embassy in Rome. More about that later…

A couple weeks ago my dad Ken Collins had a fall and was rushed to a hospital in Portland Oregon. On Monday, while I was at the Art Makers conference in Denver, I got the message that he had died in hospital, from complications of Parkinsons. He was suffering terribly for a long time so I am grateful that he is at peace now, and I send wishes of peace and comfort to my stepmom Bev, and my brother and 3 stepbrothers who grew up with him.

When I signed up for this creative conference (Art Makers) I was not sure what compelled me to take up 3 days of creative indulgence just before leaving on an overseas trip. As it turned out, receiving the news midway through the conference, making art without a deadline or business end-use was the perfect therapy to process what was going on at that time.

Many times in life I have turned to my art to help me process the changes that Life has strewn along the path. Writing, painting, sewing and quilting are all healing expressions that help us to access and release whatever is going on in the unconscious mind and heart.

Every day is a gift, and every day is an opportunity express our creativity and share with others.
