Japan Tsunami aid and relief: How you can help –

The world is already mobilizing to help victims of Friday's 8.9-magnitude earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami on Japan.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies accepts donations via text message.

Text "redcross" to 90999, and you can make a $10 donation to the organization. It will show up on your next mobile phone bill.

  1. Is there any group planning to make quilts to take to Japan to give out to earthquake/tsunami victims? I feel the need to use some of my wonderful Japanese prints this way, and want to know if there is someone organizing an effort. Thanks, Luana, for all you do!

    Hi Suzette,
Yes I am working on it but it will take time. I am going to write about it in tonight’s newsletter. It is very expensive to ship things there and for now I think it is best at first if we donate that same money for more urgent needs to ensure survival for those at risk like children, elderly, injured and displaced. I will try to find a way to get the quilts there but we have to have a shipper and we have to have a trusted distrubutor on the other end. I don’t want to organize an effort and then have them moldering away in a warehouse there!

I loved “Start Again”; wish you would publish the pattern!

    Hi Lynn,
I can’t publish the pattern because we didn’t design the pattern! I only show the quilt to inspire all of you to stretch your creative skills, as this talented Japanese quilter did in this gorgeous quilt. It is her unique design, and we thank her for the inspiration! *smile* – Luana
