Our Hearts to Paris

I am writing to you from my hotel in San Diego, where I am attending the Color Marketing Group International Summit.

Yesterday afternoon as the news started to trickle in, about something terrible that happened in Paris, we all felt sick at heart. By the time the scope of the event unfolded in the evening, we all stopped to focus on Paris, and to send our prayers to all of those affected by the tragedy.

I have already written to our friends in Paris, but I want to also reach out to anyone affected, to let you know that here in the US we are all stunned but also sending you our condolences and support. If we could reach across the Atlantic, we would give you a long group hug.

If any group is considering organizing a quilt challenge/exhibit in relation to the events in Paris, please contact me as a possible sponsor.

Here at the Color Conference, we are discussing color forecasting and trends, but much of the discussion is on the implications of larger issues like climate change and migrants/refugees, and how that will affect trends from a philosophical perspective. The design professionals attending the conference come from a wide range of industries, from cars and cosmetics, to paint and floor coverings.

I had lunch today with international color expert and author Lee Eiseman – the VP at Pantone who chooses and announces the Color of the Year. No she did not reveal that color! I got one little hint that I will keep under my hat, and we can all be surprised next month when it goes public.

Due to safety (and other) concerns, the surgeons have delayed their trip to Guatemala, so I will not be going there on Nov 27 after all. The cleft palate surgery trip will happen in the Spring, but Mission of Love will continue to do their work there for the orphans and impoverished Mayan children and families, and we will continue to support their projects through our eQuilter charity program.

If you made it this far, I want to tell you this was my single favorite fabric at Quilt Market! The whole group is gorgeous, but the panel and stripe just blew my mind, especially as a William Morris fan!
