MJ Kinman has designed a stunning new “Elizabeth Diamond” gemstone quilt pattern that is offered in 4 tonal color combinations. Now she has created a new exclusive multicolor version for eQuilter which we call the “Unicorn Rainbow Diamond” and she is coming to teach BOTH versions of this beauty March 6-8. Registration is NOW open, and we have a discounted hotel rate at the Hampton Inn nearby.
Here’s my big news for the week: I have been invited to speak as an Artist-Activist-Curator at the World Wilderness Congress in Jaipur India, in March 2020. I will give a TED style talk to the congress delegates, and will also be on a panel of environmental activist curators and artists. They are also arranging for me to speak to students who will be attending part of the weeklong conference. This has been in the works for awhile, but now that it is official, I am honored to share this news.
From the “Wild 11” conference website: “Though the challenges to life on Earth are great, there are many reasons to hope, not the least of which is the growing recognition that wilderness is not a luxury, but the foundation of life on Earth. Protecting and expanding wilderness is now regarded as a key solution for preventing the Sixth Extinction and addressing the climate crisis.”
If you go to our charity page, you can read more about the Wild Foundation, the organizers of this event. A very special thank you to all of you who have supported our environmental/conservation efforts.
One of my other ART-Activism projects is nearing a close: I am donating my quilt “Rocky Mountain Poison” to raise money for Earthworks, and then the quilt will go to live at the International Quilt Museum in Lincoln NE. Please take a moment to read the story about this fundraising project, and perhaps make a small contribution if this touches your heart. All contributors will receive an invitation to a Virtual Tea webinar with photos and stories from my travels to quilt festivals around the world in 2019.
I will be sending out details for this Virtual Tea event to all of my GoFundMe contributors as soon as the fundraiser ends.

You may have heard that we got a couple feet of snow here in Colorado yesterday. I had friends call from Florida and London to see if we were Ok! Yes 6 of our 25 employees braved the crazy weather and came in for part of the day. They were like determined Christmas Elves along with Paul who opened up early…because this is the week of our big Thanksgiving Sale and they wanted to keep processing those packages going out to all you good girls and boys! *wink*
Sophie and I went out and shoveled the 2 feet of snow for awhile, and then we made friends with the neighbor who just bought a new snow blower. Later my car got stuck in the road and the neighbors came out to help us get unstuck. That’s the Colorado holiday spirit.
Our golden retrievers had a blast leaping through the deep snow like bunny rabbits, but our cats were not as enthusiastic. I managed to catch the look on Dante’s face as he perched on a CD tower and looked out the window. This photo goes well with this Helpful Kitty fabric we just got in – you just gotta love those helpful cats who jump on your sewing machine, your piano, your computer, or even your kitchen table to ‘help’.
We’ll be in the office today to take your phone calls and answer emails before the Thanksgiving holiday tomorrow. Sorry we kind of had a Snow Day yesterday. Be sure to check out our Thanksgiving Clearance and yes…we promise not to bombard you with Black Friday emails because we are a family-owned business and we align more with Small Business Saturday.
I am meeting today with the executive director of the Wild Foundation and I should have some really exciting news in the Saturday newsletter. For those of you who appreciate our environmental donations, and our sponsorship of art exhibits, stay tuned!
Many thanks to all of you who have contributed to my fundraiser for Earthworks. I am so excited that we have reached the halfway mark, and I would appreciate you sharing with those who might want to support this environmental cause! I am donating my Rocky Mountain Quilt and hope to raise $5K by next weekend. Everyone who contributes will be invited to a Virtual Tea – an online webinar about my work as an artist – and featuring photos I’ve taken in my travels around the world in 2019. I will be sending out details for this Virtual Tea event to all of my GoFundMe contributors as soon as the fundraiser ends.
Here in Colorado we are about to get pounded with a big snowstorm, so we are dreaming of those lazy summer days…and wandering through acres of Sunflowers under a dazzling Blue sky.

Travel is fun and
inspirational but after 3 trips in a row I am happy to be home for
Thanksgiving. Yesterday our oldest son turned 30 – Happy Birthday to Mason! I
am grateful that we can still all get together for birthdays and holidays.
This weekend we are opening registration for MJ
Kinman‘s class next March 6-8, 2020. MJ’s Gemstone patterns and Fat Quarter
kits have been wildly popular, and she is featured in the current Kentucky
issue of QuiltFolk magazine.
I asked MJ to make a special multicolor version of her 48″ x 48″
gorgeous Elizabeth Diamond pattern, and we call
it the Rainbow Unicorn Diamond! You will see on the cover of the Elizabeth
Diamond pattern (in stock now) that she offers a few different tonal color
combinations, but she will also offer this Rainbow Unicorn version in the
workshop as an eQuilter exclusive. We are excited to have MJ back in our
classroom soon!
Many thanks to all of you who have contributed to my
fundraiser for Earthworks. I am so excited that we have topped $2K, and I
would appreciate you sharing with those who might want to support this environmental
cause! I am donating my Rocky Mountain Quilt and hope to raise $5K by next

ends.
We will be opening up registration soon for Susan Carlson and Paula Nadelstern for next year, so if
you want advance notification before these open to the public, contact Customer
Service and we’ll give you a 24 hour lead to sign up before it is posted
publicly.

The first time we saw this awesome Unicorn collection from Dan, we almost fell off our chairs! The deep magical jewel tones in this central detailed panel is just jaw-droppingly gorgeous, so we’ve saved this special Free Quilt Pattern for this special holiday week.

Is there anything better than coming home after a long day, and having that cute fuzzy face greeting you at the door? Ann Lauer’s latest collection is a celebration of our canine companions, jazzed up to express the mutual joy that we experience with our pups.
To make this 63″ x 78″ quilt design, you will start with 2 panels with dog portrait blocks. (One white panel, one black panel) Then add in the collection’s coordinate prints (most with gold metallic). The paisley stripe is used to make the clever border. You’ll have so much fun making this playful quilt!

This quilt was made for the 2016 exhibit
“Water is Life” which premiered at the United Nations in Geneva
Switzerland. It has traveled around the world to tell the story of ‘Rocky
Mountain Poison’ – when the Gold King Mine spill turned the Animas River orange
with toxins – and sickened communities downstream. My scientist friends in
Durango tested the water, and asked me to stitch the names of the toxins (that
were not being shared with the public) into the quilt.
Then our daughter was poisoned by VOCs (fracking byproducts – benzene styrene
and toluene) in her public school, and Earthworks helped our community to
identify what was happening. I never could have figured out that she needed to
be tested for VOC exposure on my own. They educated us so we had the strength
and courage to go after those who were poisoning our children and covering up
the truth.
After this story quilt traveled for 3 years, seen by over 100,000 people in
many venues around the world, I offered to sell or auction this art quilt to
benefit Earthworks…as a thank you for the work they do to protect our
communities.
The original idea of a fundraiser
auction began to grow into a larger dream when the International Quilt
Museum (IQM) in Lincoln NE asked to acquire the quilt!…and our 3
organizations agreed to work together to raise money with my donated quilt, and
then the quilt will go to live at the International Quilt Museum.
EVERYONE
WHO MAKES A CONTRIBUTION will receive an invitation to an online webinar
about Art Activism and my quilt festival photos from around the world in 2019.
The one-hour webinar (date to be announced) will be in December, and the
invites will be sent out after our goal is reached.
Your generosity in making this dream come to fruition is greatly appreciated by
Earthworks, the IQM and our family.

pile!
