By the time you read this, Earth Day 2017 will be coming to a close, but our love for the beauty of Nature and its wildlife will live on through the quilts we make, and the fabrics we choose. We see that your favorite fabrics have butterflies and bees, flowers and trees, endangered species that live in the water and on the land.
In 1990 I moved from New York City back to Boulder Colorado because it was important to me that my children could grow up near the mountains, so they could have the proximity to the trees and rivers, and the wild things that live there.
Our commitment to this is evident in two of our Charity options when you check out:
Out of the 1.4 million that we’ve raised for charity, 73K has gone to Rainforest Action Network (RAN) and 74K has gone to Ocean Conservancy. About 20K has gone to a mixture of other environmental organizations over the years, including The Cousteau Society, Audubon Society, National Wildlife Federation, Wilderness Society, and others.
Last week a friend in the industry told me that he is starting up several beehives in his backyard because he’s been inspired by the things I’ve posted on social media and our newsletters … about how the bees are dying off. That made me so happy, and reminded me that we all have to speak up for the Earth and her inhabitants, for the safety and health of the water and air, so our children can grow up in a world still rich with biodiversity and the deep dense vitality of Mother Nature.
Many thanks to all of you who support our efforts to protect the environment for future generations. In particular I hear from mothers and grandmothers who think about these things as they are making quilts for new babies. We hope these quilts will be passed on to future generations, and we hope that the beautiful Nature and Wildlife images we put into these quilts, will still be there for our grandchildren when they treasure our quilts in the future.
