Your Free Quilt Pattern – Wolves In The Snow

A family of wolves emerges from the forest on a snowy mountainside, in
this week’s exclusive Free Quilt Pattern. Wolf Medicine reflects the family bonds of the pack, symbolizing loyalty, teamwork, protection and playfulness. Native American lore sees wolves as sacred animals…instinctual and intuitive.

To make this 60″ x 68″ quilt design, you will start with the 24″ x 44″ central panel, with 4 wolves running across a wintery forest background. Cut and piece 3 stone textures and a Hoffman Hand-Dye to make the striking ‘wolf tracks’ in the upper and lower sections.

This beautiful Lap/Nap quilt is a great gift for a Lobo-Phile who dreams of running wild and free! Remember the book written by Dr Clarissa Pinkola Estes – “Women Who Run With the Wolves”?

Here is a quote from this book:
“The doors to the world of the wild are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door.”

We Are So Blessed

We hope you are having a lovely holiday and weekend, full of good food and loved ones, ready to take on the rest of the holiday season! At our house we always celebrate 2 birthdays the week of Thanksgiving. This year my birthday sound track was this Beatles song! Paul McCartney turned 64 in 2006, and now (at 80 yrs old) concedes that he should have used a higher number when he wrote that song. Maybe “When I’m 84!” would fit the lyrics a little better – ha.

I spent my birthday at the local production of the Nutcracker, and happened to be sitting next to the family of the dancer playing the adult Clara. The star of the show! They had come up from Colorado Springs. They said they knew 2 of the people who were shot and injured at Club Q there last week. Having suffered our own mass shooting in March last year, our hearts go out – again – to those in Colorado Springs and in the Walmart in Virginia. I just don’t even have words anymore. It is everywhere. Everyone I talk to seems to be touched by this madness. It has been 6 months since the Uvalde school shooting.

They are still receiving and distributing quilts to the school community in Uvalde, and we are also still asking for quilts to be sent to those who lost homes in the Florida hurricanes. If you don’t have those addresses from our previous newsletters, contact customer service.

During the holiday season our hearts turn to those who have less, those who have suffered a loss, those who are struggling with illness and poverty. Our long-term partnership with Mission of Love is one you can all be proud of…Kathy Price and her volunteers have just returned from another mission to help the families of Tecpan in Guatemala, distributing 3000 lbs of corn to widows and single mothers there. Wheelchairs and simple toys were distributed. In fact, MOL filled up a C5 plane with another shipment of humanitarian aid, through the Denton program. Together we continue to support a traditional Mayan weaving school for the girls and young women, and now MOL is planning sewing workshops there.

So again, we thank you for the support of our business, so we can continue to support programs here and abroad, for those in need. We are so blessed.

Free Quilt Pattern – Healing Blue Waters

Today we honor the indigenous people of North America, by offering this Free Quilt Pattern with the aboriginal art of “Healing Waters”. Mark Anthony Jacobson is a self taught First Nation artist from Sioux Lookout, Ontario, who currently works and lives in British Columbia.

To make this 53″ x 71″ quilt design, you will start with the 24″ x 44″ large central panel, and then cut and piece the second block panel to create the main layout. Finish with Waterbirds, Salmon and coordinates to create the border on this striking quilt. This is another one of our most popular collections that is now back in stock, while quantities last. A special collector group from a very special artist.

Sweet Dreams are Made of…

Have you ever had a lucid dream? Do you dream in full color? Do your dreams feel as real as your waking life? Do you dream about images and colors and designs, to wake up and sketch them out for your next quilt or art project? If so, you can join me because this is the kind of dreaming I’ve been doing since I was a kid…as long as I can remember.

This week I am dreaming of wild animals, and it is overlaid by several wildlife encounters in the last week or two. Today I spotted a bald eagle on a tall tree near our house. We get migrating eagles this time of year, and they stop off at Celestial Seasonings next door for a prairie dog snack. Except…the prairie dogs have been removed to make way for a new development of a few hundred apartments on Celestial’s land. (Which used to be a prairie dog habitat) On the other end of the street, just a few blocks away, they are laying the pipes to service this new neighborhood. When I drive by I think of that Joni Mitchell song….”they paved paradise, and put up a parking lot”.

So the eagles may not be stopping over here much longer. We are still seeing fox, raccoon, owls and hawks, and the occasional bear and bobcat wandering through our rural suburban neighborhood. I worry about their shrinking habitat.

We love this panel with Goldilocks and the Three Bears. It reminds me of…my childhood. I had my first bear encounter around age 10 at summer music camp at the base of Longs Peak. I couldn’t understand why everybody made such a big deal about it. The bear ran one way, and I ran the other way. We had a moment when we locked eyes.

I’ve been dreaming of bears and other wild creatures, ever since. (I really love this rainbow-hued Bear Batik Panel. It reminds me of my bear dreams.)

We are still accepting donated quilts for Florida hurricane victims. Drop them at eQuilter, or ship directly to:

We wish you and your loved ones safe travels for the Thanksgiving holiday.
I wish you sweet magical dreams as the holiday season begins….

Your Free Quilt Pattern – Royal Plume Jewels

You’ll be re-writing the definition of ‘holiday blues’ with this luscious Free Quilt Pattern, featuring the opulent Peacock collection from one of our favorite artists – Chong-A Hwang.

To make this 63″ x 81″ quilt design, you will start with the 24″ x 44″ central Peacock panel, with rich shades of Cobalt Blue, Turquoise, and Gold Metallic accents. Cut and piece the crystal-like shapes from the packed Blue/Gold Floral, set in Kona Solid Black, and finish the border with the coordinating floral stripe.

This reminds us of a scene from a midnight garden, with an imperial bejeweled peacock and flourishing peonies glowing in the moonlight. You can almost smell the fragrance of blossoms in the night air….

Your Free Quilt Pattern – Winter Bliss

Many of you have been humming this tune over the last few days:

Oh, the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we’ve no place to go
Let it snow! Let it snow! Let it snow!

Here’s a holiday Free Quilt Pattern that celebrates a Winter Wonderland, so you can fill up that mug with hot cocoa and shout “Bring it on!” to the storm outside.

To make this magical Forest-in-a-Snowstorm 55″ x 65″ quilt design, you will start with the atmospheric 36″ x 44″ central panel from Hoffman. We’ve added a carefully curated group of blenders- (skies, snowflakes, and a Hoffman Hand-Dye) to make the pieced diamond border.

The overall effect of soft twilight hues in the silence of a snowfall in the forest, is just the peaceful break we could all use during the busy holiday season. Enjoy!

Fierce, and a Force for Good

We are having some frigid temps and snowy weather, to put us in the holiday mood. Thanksgiving really crept up on me this year. My sense of time is still so warped from the pandemic. You too? Today I managed to drive through the icy streets to get my snow tires put on my car. The sun came out and we had one of those impossibly gorgeous Boulder Winter days….with blue skies and the mountains blanketed in snow…sparkling in the sunlight.

Yesterday we sent out an invitation to join our “Back in Stock” list. (To those of you not already subscribed to this email.) As I mentioned earlier this week, we are one of the very few businesses that restock hot sellers when they sell out quickly. If you subscribe to the Back in Stock list you can be the first to jump on these hot products when they come back into the warehouse.

Our house and our offices are in a rural-suburban area, and lately we’ve had lots of wildlife which is exciting. In the last week or two we’ve had several fox and raccoon sightings, a bobcat behind our house a few days ago, and a mama bear and cub traveled through our neighborhood 2 nights ago. This is normal for homes in the mountains nearby, but not so much here in suburbia. There’s a fox behind the eQuilter warehouse often, and I always feel blessed when I see him galloping by at dusk.

We also feel blessed by your support of our family-owned business, and you are part of our charity story. As you may know, we have now raised over $1.95 million for our list of charities and arts non-profits, and we are on track to hit $2 million by next Fall, maybe sooner. YOU have helped us in 2022 to help so many affected by natural disasters, war, poverty and illness. You have helped us to raise over $330K for breast cancer research over 23 years. Our active partnership with the Wild Foundation and Ocean Conservancy, has led to my upcoming collaboration on Art and Activism with the Endangered Species Coalition. Together we are FIERCE, and an amazing Force for Good in the World.

That’s what I am thankful for this year. You.

Free Quilt Pattern – Polar Bear Majesty

This absolutely gorgeous Free Quilt Pattern is inspired by the artwork of one of our favorite wildlife artists, and is appreciated even more after Luana’s trip up to Churchill. The majestic Polar Bears are overlords of the Arctic landscape, framed by swirling snow and distant Northern Lights, perched on an iceberg and surveying their frozen kingdom.

To make this stunning 55″ x 65″ quilt design, you will start with the 34″ x 44″ digital printed panel. Piece 3 of the collection’s coordinates, plus 2 deeply saturated Blue Hoffman Hand-Dyes, to make the crystalline border.

This Blue and White quilt makes a great conversation piece as a wall hanging, or consider using a flannel backing for a cozy wintertime nap quilt. For a wall hanging you might consider silver or blue metallic thread to add a crystalline sparkle!
