To make this 68″ x 75″ quilt design, you will start with the large 36″ x 44″ panel with the Celtic Knot/Braid frame. The Celtic Dragon Stripe makes a fantastic engineered border, splicing in Solid Kona Black and the Ironwork Shield coordinate for visual contrast.

I just want to do one more push for the Polar Bear Tour Oct 19-25, 2022. We have *almost* filled up the bus with quilters, and we have a few more spots left if you’d like to travel with me during Peak Season. This is a SMALL GROUP of only 16 people so I’d love to fill up the Polar Rover with quilters and fiber folks so we can tell fat quarter jokes and everybody will get the punchline.
They gave me the chance to fill up the whole bus with Fiber/Textile peeps, but they also gave me a deadline of Feb 15. At that point they will open the remaining few seats up to other travelers.
So if you’ve been putting off sending a deposit and registration, please take a look again and make a decision by Feb 15. Our special eQuilter NatHab agent Aly says the other trips are filling up now, so this opportunity will be gone soon whether you want to travel with me or on other dates.
Our humble thanks to those of you who have dropped off comfort quilts, or who are working on quilts to donate to the families who have lost their homes in our tragic #Marshall Fire. You can find more info here if you wish to participate.
…sharing your love of fabric, Luana and Paul

This week we are featuring the artwork of Kelly Rae Roberts in our Free Quilt Pattern. Kelly Rae is passionate about creating art as a healing practice, and as a form of deep level nourishment and self-care. She spent her early career as a clinical medical social worker, but then she was drawn to the healing power of art.
To make this 52″ x 58″ quilt design, you will start by cutting apart the vignette blocks in her 24″ x 48″ panel. Then add the coordinating stripe and 4 other prints from her collection, to make this lighthearted quilt. This would make a beautiful and comforting Lap/Nap quilt, or hang on the wall for an uplifting creative message.

To make this gorgeous 55″ x 62″ quilt design, you will start with the 36″ x 44″ digital-printed central panel. Then add the Venetian Masks, 4 Solids in the classic Mardi Gras colors, and the matching overall Diamond print.
If you’d like some visual inspiration for a future Mardi Gras or Venice Carnival celebration you can follow these links above to Luana’s photo albums.

It is exciting to know that my curated exhibit “For the Love of Gaia” has opened (as of yesterday) at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts. However I don’t think any of you will be going to see it this weekend, as they are having a historic blizzard there today! However storms pass, and the quilts (and their message about Mother Earth) from 15 artists around the world, will be there when you can visit on a day that is not quite so blustery.
My inbox has been full of emails announcing that Chinese New Year is coming up, and it is the year of the TIGER. (We celebrate CNY because our daughter was adopted from China, and I used to live in Hong Kong.) There seems to be a renewed interest in Tigers, so we have stocked up on Tiger-related fabrics. I don’t know if this heightened interest is residual from the Tiger King TV show, but if that is the case, I need to let you know that most of the tigers that were rescued from those terrible conditions, ended up at the Wild Animal Sanctuary which is about one hour East of Boulder in Keenesburg CO. They are currently caring for over 650 Lions, Tigers, Bears and Wolves who were all rescued from horrific captive situations.
I have become friends with the WAS founder Pat Craig over the years, and I am in awe of what Pat and his team have accomplished over the decades. Another artist friend and I came up with a fundraiser idea for them several years ago, that resulted in an event that raised $100K in one night. So you could say, I am an active fan and supporter! The Bobcat/Arches National Park quilt I made (that traveled in the National Parks exhibit for years) was based on a photo of a bobcat that lives at WAS, and when it sells it will benefit them as well.
Perhaps you have also discovered that being a quilter and/or artist can be a way to support local non-profits. My painted bear will be auctioned off in April to raise money for the Boulder Chautauqua, and my Rocky Mountain Poison quilt raised $4K for Earthworks before it was acquired by IQM in Lincoln NE. (It is on exhibit in the Gaia exhibit, one last time, before it goes home to the museum.) My photos from several trips to Cuba, will be part of a fundraiser for the Boulder Philharmonic this spring.
How can your quilts or textile art benefit your favorite non-profits in your community? You may be surprised! Often our artwork and quilts can raise more money than we might donate out of our pockets.

One of our favorite wildlife artists – Abraham Hunter – has created this delightful Summer Woodland collection featuring the antics of those furry masked raiders – the Raccoons. In these vignettes a mama raccoon tends to her young in a tree hollow nest, and 2 more raccoons are smelling the flowers.
To make this 51″ x 56″ quilt design, you will start by cutting up a 35″ x 44″ digital-printed panel. Then piece together and create the border using 2 Rubin stone textures, 2 Hoffman Hand-Dyes, and the coordinating Raccoon stripe, which also has Chipmunks, Toadstools and Wildflowers!
Our home and warehouse are in a rural/suburban area where wildlife overlaps with humans. We have definitely encountered mother raccoons crawling up trees with their babies, staring inquisitively from a safe high branch, so this collection also brings back happy Nature memories for us.

If you are a True Quilter, you have a stash of Fat Quarters, and likely a raft of Fat Quarter jokes to explain your stash to the uninitiated.
Why do we love Fat Quarters so much?
Because the more colors and fabric designs we have on our shelf, the better equipped we are to start a new project. As we start our journey as a quilter, we realize we need to collect not just all the colors of the rainbow, but all the colors in-between (like Turquoise, Orchid Pink, and Lime Green…and don’t forget the Earthtones and Neutrals) and all the values of these colors (Pastels, Midtone, and Darks) to free our creative imaginings.
So it is easier to fill out this basic palette with a wide variety of small pieces, than to buy several yards of each. (But don’t worry, that part comes later.)
Whether you are an ardent scrappy quilter, or a textile artist always adding to your color palette, we are always on the hunt for the perfect collection of luscious fat quarters to add gravitas to the glorious melange we refer to as our…ahem….fabric collection.
Maybe you don’t know yet, that we have our own line of Fat Quarter collections that are curated and cut right here in our warehouse. Over the years we have developed a selection of Precut FQ’s that are personally selected by me, because as a quilter, I could never find exactly what I wanted for my Fat Quarter stash. So I created these for me, and for you. When you wake up in the middle of the night from a pastel dream, muttering “I need a collection of rainbow ice cream solids!” …..we will have exactly what you need.
Over 23 years our Precut selection has expanded exponentially to include many cherry-picked collections of charms, strips, 10″ squares and Fat Quarters from our beloved fabric manufacturers. But you’ll know which ones are exclusive to eQuilter because of our distinctive product images (as you see above) which were designed by Paul. We really have fun putting these together, and we just hope that you enjoy them as much as we do!
There’s nothing like a stack of colorful Fat Quarters to lift your spirits, so I invite you to explore our Precut Department and you just might find out why Fat is Good when you are a quilter. *wink*
To make this quick and easy 44″ x 63″ quilt design, you will start with the central 24″ x 44″ panel, then add 4 more coordinates from the collection to make the borders. This creative muse might be just what you need to hang on the wall of your work space, to keep you company as you are sewing your way through 2022!

Yesterday I heard that Zen Master and peace activist Thich Nhat Hahn had passed from this world into the next, at 95 years old. I had to drop everything and meditate on the wisdom I have absorbed from him over the years. I feel very fortunate to have heard him speak in person twice. In fact I find that in the most challenging times, I return to those lessons full of so much deep insight. Teachers who speak of compassion, love, and mindfulness have helped me to form a solid foundation in this life. So I am taking this weekend to meditate on my gratitude for the Light he shared with our world.
This week the Art Quilt world lost one of our matriarchs. Judith Trager was active locally and nationally, and she was one of the first people I met when I discovered Art Quilts before eQuilter was hatched. She achieved the last thing on her bucket list though – her latest fiber art piece got into the Visions Art Museum show. She will be sorely missed by our creative community.
This weekend I am finally starting to recover from a badly sprained ankle and a fall on the ice. I know many people who have fallen or struggled with icy conditions the last couple weeks – so here’s hoping we’ll have more crunchy snow and less slipping and sliding! Those of you who live in areas of Black Ice know that feeling of dread when the tires go silent because the wet roads have frozen into a solid sheet of glassy ice. Be careful out there! We are not used to Black Ice storms here in Colorado.
Sending our deepest gratitude to those of you who have dropped off quilts or are making comfort quilts for the 1000+ families who lost everything in the December 30th #MarshallFire.
We have posted guidelines for donation here, and this effort will run for many months, for the thousands of people affected. This has hit our community hard and we are still trying to comprehend the depth of destruction and the many layers of recovery that will be required.
My curated exhibit “For the Love of Gaia” opens Jan 28 at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Mass. It will run through April 9th. This will be the final stop for this exhibit, and we thank all the artists for their beautiful and thoughtful works of textile art.
To make this exclusive eQuilter quilt design, you will splice together two 60″ x 60″ digital panels (one Blue, one Purple), then add 3 Hoffman Hand-Dyes to make the border for this 68″ x 68″ finished quilt.
This Bees-Eye-View of a luscious Dahlia bloom will keep your creative juices flowing through the remainder of Winter, so you can dream and plan for your garden in a few months. Enjoy!
